Brand New Class for 2025
This year I am starting up a new class, for those older students in the early years of high school, who would like a regular creative outlet, without necessarily studying art as a subject at school.
The classes will be a combination of projects that I set the students, as well as their own self directed studies. This will give everyone the opportunity to explore any particular topics or techniques that they are interested in.
Classes will be held on a Tuesday afternoon during term time from 4 - 5 p.m. at the Half Dozen Group of Artists studio in Sherwood. Our first class of the term will be on Tuesday 4th February.
Fees for the term are $270, which includes all materials and equipment, including a folder to keep artwork in and a sketch book.
After School Art Classes for primary aged students
My after school classes will be running again on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons during school term time. As the vast majority of my students will be returning again, these classes are already fully booked, with a waiting list for each of them.
In term 1 there will be a strong focus on drawing. It is the foundation of all other art forms so I always like to start my new students off by focusing on the basics. In these classes we will explore shape, line, the various different pencil grades and how to use them, shading techniques, texture, perspective and composition. As well as lots of visual reference material, I have a wealth of weird and wonderful objects for the kids to study!
The classes are best suited to students in grade 2 and above . Fees for the 10 week term are $300 which includes all materials and equipment, plus a folder to keep artwork in. Places are limited so please contact me if you would like to secure a place for your child or if you would like any further information.
Wednesdays from 29th January
QCWA hall, 76 Lincoln Street, Oxley
3.45 - 4.45 p.m.
Thursdays from 30th January
Half Dozen Group of Artists studio, 37 Quarry Road, Sherwood

I am very proud to present here a small selection of artwork from my very talented students. Over the years we have tackled a wide variety of topics and used all kinds of materials but drawing remains at the core of everything we do. It is incredibly rewarding to pass on tips and skills to students of all ages and I love it when children go home at the end of a session, really pleased with what they have produced.
Here are some comments about my classes:
The after school art classes have been a great success and the program has
grown because of the high quality of the visual arts lessons that Kim
provides.
The murals and mosaics Kim has created, sometimes with the help of our
students, are truly wonderful and create a fantastic feel to different areas
of our school.

My daughter has been one of Kim's art students for the last four years, and she is currently eagerly anticipating the start of this year's lessons. She looks forward to Kim's classes all week during term, and shows her art portfolio to everyone she can. Kim is a kind and caring teacher with an excellent relationship with her students. We're lucky to have access to such a wonderful art class.
What I like as a parent is the classes aren’t too large, it is a relaxed environment, everyone is encouraged to develop at their own pace, your ability to go through the techniques used (I had never heard of hatching and cross hatching in drawing!) and that you do many mediums not just painting or drawing. Highly recommended.
I love the way your art classes provide an opportunity to explore all sorts of different media and how the children enjoy developing skills in a familiar environment.
